About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Claudette, I like the graphic way you lay this out. They see what has been accomplished and what they still need to do. This reduces confusion and misunderstandings that may occur. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Rebecca, Good for you. This increases the accountability for your students. They see you are serious about the course so they should be as well. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Andrea, Good point. If there is a problem then the more input you can get the more accurately you will be able to adjust what is going on and keep the class moving forward in a positive manner. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jerry, Good way to get the students settled into a new course as well as getting to know you and their classmates. Once they are comfortable you then can start to lay out the course structure and requirements. This helps to reduce stress and nerves for everyone. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Isaac, I commend you for the way you are "reading" your students each time the class meets. You are right about the different moods and dynamics in the class and thus you have to be responsive to those changes if you are going to have an impact that day. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Marie, Tough situation to teach in. I admire your ability to overcome adversity and make sure you have within your control the resources you need to be successful in your classroom. Your students I know appreciate your dedication to helping them learn in the best supported way possible. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, This strategy is a powerful motivator for students. They can see themselves in the same setting as those students that have graduated and are now working in their field. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Paul, Well said and very important for instructors to remember at all times. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Lenore, It is critical for assignments to be relevant and have application. You are bringing both of these elements into your assignments with your approach. You are showing them the ROI that is coming their way if they are successful in your course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Lenore, I think your thinking is right on. They need to establish a basic skill set and then they can progress to the more abstract concepts and expressions. It is a building process as you know and your approach helps them make the progress that is needed to be successful. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
