About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Charles, Right you are. This is something all instructors need to guard against so they don't let down because if they do it is for sure the students will let down. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Robert, Good for you. The students need to know they must be forth the effort if they are going to be successful. You will be there to support them but it is up to them to work hard if they are going to enjoy success. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Krista, Well said. Nothing breeds success like success. Knowing they have a caring and dedicated instructor and that they can actually pass the course if they put forth the effort greatly increases the motivation level. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Joseph, Yes, you need to bring enthusiasm to the class each time you teach. If you don't the students will soon drift away mentally if not physically. This is how you keep them focused on their career goals. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Deborah, Passion is a key ingredient for teaching success. By bringing it and enthusiasm to the classroom you will greatly enhance the engagement of students as you know. Thank you for sharing your passion about your field with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Joshua, All of these strategies are ways to get more student engagement. I am sure your students look forward to being able to use these strategies once they have new information and/or skills to apply. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Martha, Immediate use of newly acquired knowledge is always a motivator for students. You are doing such with this approach. Keep up the good work. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Marie, This is a great way to make your course come alive for your students. Since they are vet tech students they see this course differently and you have application to their lives thus value to what is being taught. Great job! Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jim, How do you do that with your classes? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Daniel, I think you will see improvement in your students as a result of this new approach. Some of them as you know some strategies they can use to help them to study the material in a more targeted way. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
