About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Tina, I think you are really going to like the results you get from using this strategy. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nicole, Good way to reinforce through the different senses what the requirements of the course are. Seeing, hearing and internalizing is essential if they are to remember what the expectations are for the coming course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tony, Good point. Repetition is an essential part of learning. Students need to be reminded and reinforced repeatedly in order to retain critical course content. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Daryll, This is a wonderful way to establish yourself with the students. They can see and hear that you know your craft and are willing to share your expertise and knowledge with them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Daniel, Good reminder for students. As you know sometimes they let their comments get away from them and say things that are not in the form of professional communication. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Keyonna, This is a very important point to remember. If a student question comes up then you have the syllabus to refer to and this serve as the document of explanation for what you did in the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Yahaira, Do you create your own syllabus or does your college provide one for you? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
David, Well said and a good point. Smiles go a long long way in creating a positive image in the minds of students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
William, Sticking to the schedule is always a challenge for the instructor as you will know. The syllabus and course outline gives the direction and scope of the course and then the instructor can work within that framework. When things come up and times need to be changed they can be while still keeping the course moving forward. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
G, Not exactly sure what you mean by technical competence but based upon my understanding I would suggest you show the use of technical competence in practical ways. The more relevance and application you can show the greater the buy in will be by students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
