About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Joseph, Well said and right on point. Thanks for your comments. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
John, I would set up appointments with all of the students during the office hours. These appointments would only need to be a few minutes, say 10 minutes the purpose being getting to know them better. Once you have worked through them the students that are having problems in the course will be more comfortable coming in. If you are in class before it starts and chat with the students so you are seen as being approachable will help with them coming in as well. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Afrodite, You are offering balanced learning opportunities to your students. This way they can work in their own learning preferences at different times throughout the course. This approach keeps them engaged and focused on the content at a much greater level. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
James, Good approach. Thanks for sharing your success strategy with us. You are helping your students to see the ROI of studying and applying what they are learning. This really increases the value of their education. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
G, This is a engaging way to bring application and relevancy into the learning process. The students get to learn and utilize which increases knowledge retention. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Bess, Students like variety and the more you can incorporate into to your classes the more engagement you are going to have. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Daniel, I teach both. Half of my load is online and half on ground. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Lisa, Good strategy for getting student involvement started early in the course. Also, I like the way you get them to invest in the course as they work to list the expected outcomes. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kizzy, Good opening for a new class. This approach lets the students get settled in and see that they are respected by the instructor. Good foundation to build on for the rest of the course. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Deborah, You are a model for your field. Sometimes instructors forget this. We are always "on stage" with our students so our conduct needs to reflect the highest standards. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
