About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Agustin, I like your approach to inspiring and challenging your students in terms of their success opportunities. You have not only talked the walk but have walked the walk. This makes you a role model they can follow if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jennifer, Thanks for the inspiring comments. You are an over achiever which is to your credit and success, not to mention how your efforts demonstrate to your students that they can be successful. Keep inspiring! Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Anna-Maria, Good strategy. I wish I had had you as an instructor when I was taking Physics. I still break out in a cold sweat when I think of my high school and college physics classes. If I had just been given an opportunity to make application of what I was being taught it would have made a world of difference. Keep up the good work. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Doug, I teach until 10:00 pm in my classes as well so I can really relate to your comments. I know when I let me students out early they get very excited because they know it won't happen on a regular basis so they need to enjoy the extra time that is given to them on occasion. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Samantha, They sure are since they have the students applying their new information. This increases the retention of the material for the students as well. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Robert, By using your approach you are offering different opportunities for students to use their learning preferences. In addition, they get to learn how to use different preferences with different materials. So you are offering engaging instruction in different modes. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Billie Kay, Thank you for sharing your approach with us. It is a challenge to get everyone involved in a group project. By having individual responsibilities that contribute to the total outcome it is easy to see who is pulling his/her weight. It also lets the students know you know what is going on in the groups so they know they will be evaluated fairly based upon their own work. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Rhonda, This effort to get feedback and input from students is a comfortable and non-threatening way for them. This way they can talk with you in private if they have any concerns. Good approach. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
ATUL, Well said and important point all of us instructors need to remember as we start a new class. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Corey, A great way to start a class and create a positive first impression. You are sending a message of success and engagement to your students if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
