About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Frank, Simple truth but powerful in application. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Daniel, Sounds like a comfortable and easy way to work with your previous students in the lab. The new students give you an opportunity to develop rapport with them and build a relationship that will carry over into the lab. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Chloe, If you can use case studies or role playing into your instructional delivery you will engage the students as well. I lecture then discuss. Once we have talked through the new information we do problem solving or case studies and the students really like this. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Patricia, I like the way you bring variety to your students learning preferences. You are giving them a chance to work in their different intelligences which enhances their engagement and focus. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Kevin, You are on the right track with this approach. Students like variety and change of pace and this is what you are offering. This way the different intelligences are being engaged by the students throughout the course session. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nancy, Your approach takes their training to another level in my opinion. You are making it more than just the technical aspect of their training but the human aspect as well. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Dr. Wilson, An important part of being a dedicated professional educator is to keep instructional delivery current and fresh. Your point supports this part of working through the REFOCUS process. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Chakita, Very true. They feel they have a connection with you so they are more willing to discuss with you issues they may have with the class, assignments or their program. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Lee, Good example of how a core subject and be related to personal use. The more relevancy and application that can be shared the greater the retention of content is going to be. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nancy, You should make an immediate referral to the Student Services office or Career Services, whatever you have in your college. This is unfair to the student, you and your field. They should be able to help her find a career area that she will like and can have success within. To continue her with little or no hope of passing the entrance exams is wrong on many levels.
