Activity

The main ideas I've learned in this unit are: the difference between the formative and summative assessments; creating a rubric; Including self and peer evaluation; and providing meaningful feedback.

I definitely have a better understanding of the formative assessment given a few example. I will definitely use the 1-minute paper or the muddiest point.

We use reflection paper after each clinic or on a weekly basis.  It helps to know that it validates the purpose of helping the students develop ownership in their learning.

What I've learned in this module is the importance of buiding a good communication tools within the online community.  I also learned the eight scaffolding tasks in order to promote learning such as providing clear instructions, keeping students on task, reducing uncertainty and disappointments...

For this section, I've learned that course planning should support the course learning objectives.  During implementation and testing, expect that there will be revisions. Modules should have siimilar layout for consistency. Finally, I also learned that when creating and testing the module course, scaffolding is necessary to promote learning.

In this module I learned how to minimize attrition in on e-learning community.  Due to feeling of alienation, over workload, competing responsibilities and technical issues, an online learner may suddenly decide to drop out.  As an online educator, we are responsible for helping students how to manage their time and provide interem guidance.

I've also learned several behavioral management for asynchronous learners similar to synchronous classroom. I can deal with the procrastinators but the disruptive and the intimidators are the ones that are the most challenging for me to manage because it is difficult to modify behaviors that has been… >>>

I've learned the difference of asynchronous and synchronous when fostering participation.  Most of the ideas I've learned in this module today have confirmed teaching practices. I am happy to know we can use emoticons in asynchronous discussions to help convey the message and to compensate for the lack of nonverbal cues.

In addition, I have learned the importance of rewording feedback to encourage participation, and to increase the studnents' confidence to partcipate in this module.

Online instructors can set his or her biography, credentials and hobbies.  It is important to stablish instructor-student relationship by creating a getting-to-know-you assignment on the first day.  Welcoming and sending a personalized message to students who are specially stuggling can help strenghten the educator-student relationship.

What I've learned in this module as an online instructor is that, we must familiarize ourselves how to navigate our institution's CMS.  It is as simple as knowing how to do attendance to posting grades and giving students timely feedback.  Having technical support on hand for quick questions and resolutions helps manage students' and instructor's unnecessary frustrations.
