About me

Activity

I have learned that the work of the institution is to demonstrate through its narrative response and exhibits that it meets or exceeds the standards. Along with a strong narrative report, tables and charts provide strong visual support.

I have learned that for both administrative and academic standards, it is important to understand that how an institution writes its self study report is critical to the success of its bid for accreditation.

I have learned that the Federal regulations allow accreditors to establish additional criteria and require institutions to demonstrate  compliance with those standards.

I have learned that knowing how to read and interpret accreditation criteria and how to express what your institution does in context to standards is very important. Each accrediting agency determines the type of schools it will serve.

The student's first day experience can be a great tool to help reinforce the student's decision to attend college and help reduce buyer's remorse.

Use the entire class time. Teach bell to bell!

The key to retention is always early intervention!

Key components;

Statements from the faculty regarding what they like about teaching.

Reinforce the institution's ability to prepare students for the workplace.

Set clear expectations for the classroom environment.

The more connections and relationships a student has at an institution, the more likely they are to graduate.

Orientation should be fun, but not corny!

The content so far in my mind reminds me of the following important sometimes overlooked key points;

In rare cases, adult students may enroll to fulfill social needs.

Traditional students are also enrolling because of a defined need.

Because the vast majority of students are enrolling to alleviate their immediate problem, It is important to remember this as you develop your orientation program.

The importance of the value equation.

The most important audit of an activity is making sure that it is aligned to the learning objectives for the session.

Ihave learned that even the small things can have a large impact on the classroom setting.
