Activity

This section provided insight into the the Solomon Amendment, the U.S. Patriot Act, the Gramm-Leach-Bailey Act and SEVIS. It also showed the similarities as well as differences between FERPA and HIPPA. 

 

During this section it was made clear all of the various rules and regulations meant to protect students personal information regarding FERPA. It also made it clear the importance of not only training new employees in FERPA but also reviewing the laws periodically with more tenured employees in order to maintain proper standard of privacy, consistently. 

 

In this section, the importance of following proper protocal regarding the release of student confidential information. It is advisable to err on the side of caution and verify with the student before any information is disclosed to any party that is not a school official doing their duties or the student themselves. 

So far we have reviewed the importance of FERPA and the preservation of privacy of any student's confidential educational documents. Also the importance of following the proper procedure as per FERPA laws in order to insure our student's information is protected.

 

In this section I learned the importance of keeping my resource notebook up to date in order to have the most current and accurate information possible for our students. This will help with answering any questions students may have during the enrollment/admissions process. I also learned of the various rules regarding accreditation and credit transfers. 

In this section it was made clear that understanding all proceedings and regulations the institution has in place is important as mistakes or issues that occur can affect the accreditation of the institution. Things such as sitting in during classes and regularly speaking with the directors of each department will also help in providing the student with the most up to date and accurate information available. 

In this section I learned of the importance of keeping a checklist for all students I will be working with in order to insure I am relaying the various rules and regulations clearly and concisely. It was also made clear that all of the information should be on both the documents given to the students as well as reviewed verbally in order to minimize misunderstandings which can occur when there are many requirements and regulations in place. 

With this course I have learned that there are various rules and regulations which need to be adhered to in order to be an effective and compliant admissions representative. Keeping a resource notebook as suggested will help provide a more direct/organized path when enrolling new students.
