Through this discussion, I’ve learned that engaging online learners goes far beyond just completing assignments or participating at a surface level. Effective engagement involves interaction, variety in learning methods, and creating meaningful connections to the material. Strategies like discussion boards, multimedia content, and frequent low-stakes assessments are not only helpful for participation but also for improving understanding and retention.

Motivating students is unique to the individual students needs.

Staying motivated as an instructor will translate into keeping your students motivated.

A general strategy for student retention is by letting your presence be known to the students. Keep reassuring them that you are there to guide & support them.

Student Characteristics are both generational and personal to the individual students.

Responding to students individually will develop a relationship and trust with the student over time.

Student engagement, especially in an online setting, is essential for student retention.

Students require background information about the instructor to develop test and report.

In this course I learned that the online delivery method is much different than the traditional on campus method.

I believe that when delivering course content it is important that we inform students of what is to come as well as what is expected from them. In that way they are able to prepare them for content to be aware of during the lecture/demonstration.
