Kay, Yep! Enthusiasm in a classroom makes it difficult to be a spectator. Barry Westling
Kevin, Great! The (overused) quote by Einstein is still poignant: "insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result". Trial and error is as much a part of instruction as tried and true. Journals are a great way to learn about the current self, and also to reflect on in the future. This can reveal growth, improvement, and allow fine tuning our approach to various topics. Barry Westling
William, Strengths create clarity and direction. Weaknesses are future opportunities for creativity and effective instruction. Barry Westling
Candace, Too, when we share info early on time for correction can occur. And any discussion we have helps build relationships with students. Barry Westling
Candace, Those teachers who journalize nearly always find they benefit from notations and comments they've made. Reflecting on the past gives great insight to growth and improvement as teachers. Barry Westling
Dennis, Student success is partly related to knowledge of current performance. This should not be an optional activity. Barry Westling
Shannon, What's cool is we establish and/or reinforce our relationships with students when we take valuable time for this important activity. Like you said, this helps build trust and respect, both ways! Barry Westling
Shannon, It's true as teachers we have many resources and tools to assist us these days. The real key is to be selective to the point that what is presented provides the best and most efficient class sessions, maximizing the available time and resources. Barry Westling
Kay, Great. I believe we can only grow when we are willing to try new things, learn frtom mistakes, and acfcept that we will always be in a place where improvement will help us become better teachers. Barry Westling
Joseph, The one thing that's common here is you are providing quality one on one time with the student. I feel strongly that when teachers give individual time, the students are just going to do better. Barry Westling
