Tracey, It'ss difficult for students to be absent and gain the full benefit of their instruction. Absolutely, attendance as well as academic performance is a critical portion of keeping students adequately informed. Having this discussion with sincerity and concern for the strudents successfulness will usually be received well, and a complete turnaround in performance is possible if the discussion is done early on and frequently throughout the session. Barry Westling
William, Each teacher and student has to decide what works best for them. Our target is learning, not points or grades. So if that focus is maintained then...whatever. Barry Westling
Kay, Right.Recognition, prasie, even giving exceptional students assignment above and beyond what the course calls for are great. It's the awarding of points that I choose not to engage in. I just feel it contributes to entitlement, expected in future classes, and in the real workforce, there is no EC. Barry Westling
Kiona, My personal feeling is EC shuld not be used at all. Opinions vary, but I believe EC is about grades and points, whereas I'm most most concerned with student leaning, which EC rarely contributes to. Barry Westling
Kay, Sometimes, just simple distrations for a moment can get students off task. Circulating among the classroom, asking specific questions of specific students, or changing the delivery style can "reset the mood" and get students refocused and attention restored. Barry Westling
William, Love it! (and the name too). thanks for sharing. Barry Westling
William, Perfect! Finding that right mix among the mutitude oif choices is essential. Barry Westling
Kay, Another part of this module discusses using senses in learning. Passing around items that can be touched adds to sensory stimulation and ultimately retention of needed information. Barry Westling
Qadar, This is great. By customizing your slides, you make the lessons pertinent to the material you want to emphasize. And alternating between slide and discussion provides a great blend of material that makes class interesting! Barry Westling
Tracey, Good. One key I find is what the teacher may think is perfect may be missing the perfect method or information the student needs for complete understanding. Just a sensitivity to what will best serve the students is worthwhile to consider. Barry Westling
