Marie, In the end, students having an opportunity to review missed information, correct incorrect thinking, and to know their performance sooner than later is appreciated and helpful. Barry Westling
Kelly, Yeah, I find adult learners like to know what's expected and a pretests can help give them a preview of what's to come, and sometimes a pretest can help a student prepare for an area of study they recognize they are weak in. But mostly, these help the instructor plan their lessons to put the emphasis where it can do the most good. Barry Westling
Marie, Great example of developing a skill and a great method to use for your students, as well as in this forum. Barry Westling
Nancy, Well, experience teaches us all much of what is described and it's a fact there is no teacher better than experience. I think being a natural, genuine version of ourselves, honest with students, and with applied skills of patience, courtesey, and confidence, we improve ourselves and our students will benefit as well. Barry Westling
Vickie, Yeah, its like someone who says they have 10 years experience, when really its more like one year experience, 10 years in a row. Barry Westling

Dawn, When I think of the use of a back up plan, it's mostly for when class activities I've planned can't happen for...xyz reasons. So I go to plan B. Here then, is where we want to have something that is pertinent, interesting, low tech, keeps students focused, and relatively easy to implement. Good back up plans can be integrated that students may not even know the difference. Some, like the computers in the lab aren't working, or the LCD projector buld burned out, are a good examp[les when having that back up plan is worth it's weight in gold!… >>>

Dawn, Yes, especially for students taking night classes. But with a good strategy that includes interesting topics and a variety of activities can minimize the effect of tiredness after a long day of work. Barry Westling
Vickie, I think we all teach to our strengths; those willing to make improvements, work on weaker areas will probably find the weaker areas can become among their strongest, if they're willing to work at it. Barry Westling
Vickie, Great. I'm a believer in sharing good (and not so good) information sooner than later. Adlut learners sort of expect immediate feedback, and to trhe degree I'm able, I'll provide as close to that as possible. Barry Westling
Vickie, Great ideas to add to the variety of methods to use pretesting as a tool for better student outcomes. Barry Westling
