Emily, Games are good, and actually studies have shown games use a different part of the brain, so it's a valid form of learning. Hopefully, camardariere is reinforced, along with competitiveness. Barry Westling
Emily, Great. I would imagine, taste, smell, texture, weight, visual appearnace would also be among the common senses regularly used too. What's known is the more senses we can incorporate into our lessons and instructional plans, the better will be the retention of information. Barry Westling
Emily, Great! I do something similiar, and I can say that looking at these comments in subsequent classes is very helpful. I think that is exactly the outcome a teaching journal should acommplish. Barry Westling
Roy, In this situation, the school has a set policy, so as much as the importance of measuring student performance is, there is just as much importance in following the school policy. That said, as instructors, I see no harm is assisting your students adhere to the school policy, even reminding them if necessary. It could only help them as I see it. Barry Westling
Roy, My belief is that our job is to teach students. To measure the degree of how successful we are, we need to assess students. To this end, it may be appropriate to dock a student some small percentage for missed or late testing, but certainly not to deny them the opportunity. Barry Westling
Brenda, Good idea. Students should be held to keep track of their performance. The grade conference also be used just to encorage and offer priase if that's all that's needed. Students appreciate the personal touch from their instructor. Barry Westling
Brenda, One of the cool things about regular jornalizing (as you probably realize) is the reflection that can occur reviewing notations made over past years. The only way this can happen is to begin and continue woith the effort. Barry Westling
Mihaela, Right! Like a journey, having a destination, with measuring points along the way! Barry Westling
Mihaela, Great. Instruction runs so much smoother when we have a good sense where our students are at academically or where their prior learning level is. Knowing this, we can tailor our emphasis where we can be the most effective. Barry Westling
Mihaela, True, we are often looked to for direction, example, and how successful people behave. Besides a comepetent instructor, we have that additional responsibilty of modeling the best professional behaviors to our students. Barry Westling
