Hi Mary: I think pop quizes are fine if the students are made aware they can expect a quiz after a lecture. You may find that this helps you fine tune yor lectures, and that's a good thing. Some students take longer to digest fresh material, study their notes, compare notes with textbook, or simply reveiw the material. I have adopted a practice of quiz tomorrow on what we covered today in order to allow students time to grasp all of the material, if possible. That's just my way, other methods may work just as well. Hi Trinidad: Communication with students occurs on so many levels, it's difficult to try to isolate just one avenue. I think 1 on 1 is best when discssing performance because it helps reinforce the interpersonal relationship with teacher-student. Regards, Barry

Hi Wayne: Many teachers would agree with your sentiments. In some professions, students simply have to have the requisite knowledge to be successful. I think sometimes some teachers don't separate the process of awarding grades and points from the process leading to learning and gaining appropriate knowledge. Perhaps that's OK in softer courses where the outcome is not directly related to their performance as workers. Regards, Barry

Hi Candace: Students will pick up quite readily if an instructor is ready for class -prepared and organized. We can be role models (good or bad). We have expectations of tyhe students, so al least we can show in kind we operate by our own rules. Regards, Barry

Hi Kym: Be a facilitator. Have your student engaged in many aspects of job interviews, meeting people, etc. Maybe you can create intentional conflict situations and have the students watch their classmates deal with it. Then discuss the "performance". Emphasize voice tones or yelling (sound), body language (sight), arguments for and against (critical thinking). I'm sure if you put some thought into it and examined your learning objectives, you could come up with great teaching examples that invlove the senses. Regards, Barry
