Transformative learning styles allow the student to set their own goals and achieve them in a self-paced atmosphere. Allowing self-teaching for those students who possess the required motivation and aptitude is a positive method of engaging them with the course material. 

Leading by example, doing demonstrations, and advising students on an individual basis sets a tone to the classroom and is key for the overall development of the student.

Paraphrasing and passive listening are key tools in making your students feel heard.

I disagree with the sentiment that students should be treated as customers. Especially in the younger adult learning environment, my experience is this shifts the focus from education to profit. Focusing on the quality of the education or the course as a whole will return positive reviews, and make students more likely to recommend the course to others.

Students have their own individual reasons for continuing their education. Each student has different challenges that they face. Focusing on the challenges that can be changed or eliminated can improve retention while showing empathy towards the challenges that cannot be mitigated.

Giving real world examples of the application of knowledge taught in class seems to motivate those students who are not exactly sure of the path forward. Intrinsic and extrinsic motivation must be used accordingly in each students' given situation.

The Hierarchy of Communication is present in most interactions, and is the key to meaningful dialogue. Improving listening skills is a personal goal of mine.

Body language is just as important in conversation as the words that are spoken. Being open to communication creates a better learning environment.

Be prepared. Be able to explain, effectively and efficiently, the more difficult parts of the course material. Students will always have questions.

Construction of a class flow plan is key to the engagement of students. Trial or "alpha" classes can be utilized to perfect this.
