I think now is an exciting time for students of all ages in school. From the little ones starting out in school they have already been hard wired to some type of computer or computer technology. They already know how to look for information on the internet, play educational games and how wonderful it is for them to learn and get instant feedback.  They can also help each other in school settings. They can discuss how to do something and show others some tools or ways to do things, the creative side in them really shows through.

I think it is a great idea to have a Cosmetology group discussion. I do know through years of teaching that the students faces maychange we are still dealing with the same type of students. They can be very inspirational, challenging, and delightful at times. They are a great group if we nurture them correctly

I have to agree with this perspective on learning. Learning is on going. We as teachers must set the example to our students by showing them that the world changes daily and we have to keep up not only with technology but with what is happening in our own industries. I believe that class discussion is an integral part of learning. It opens up discussions about subject at hand. Grab those teaching moments when they come along but don't get off track… >>>

I have to agree with you about learning about a students personal life. I get very involved with discussions dealing with life situations and how they will impact their futures. I do spend a lot of my own money on supplies and do give them little gift for no reason just not to embarrass them when they can't afford certain supplies. I tell them the tools that I am giving them are for their efforts they have shown in learning a lesson well. I never put them down and always encourage them to do their best. I also tell… >>>

@debbi :I always use humor in the classroom. I love to share stories about past experiences and things others have done in their early career days. It makes students realize that I am human and have had my share of embarassing episodes in my life. I also tell them about situations that they will encounter in their career dealing with the public. By sharing stories with students it keeps them intrigued, helps them to self examination of their thoughts and how sometimes changes their perspective of how the world of work.
