Many times students succumb to the pressure of school, work, and other activities with which they are involved. There are certain skills needed to succeed in the online environment; however, it is essential that students understand pitfalls they should avoid. These pitfalls limit students' success and encourage procrastination.

It is important to use a variety of tools for successful communication in an online course. Each tool provides a unique ability to engage students and the instructor in meaningful dialog.

 the key is to help students understand why the content is important to learn and that you care about their achievement of the learning outcomes.
