Battling against lifestyles of online learners can be challenging to truly know if one is understanding and are competent with the material. However, utilizing some of the strategies of motivation, social interaction and journaling can be methods to increase their knowledge of the materials for class. The true test would be to bring students onto campus and have exams taken in person, however, our online enviornment would need to establish values for engagement to better student understanding.

Student understanding at times can be a challenge. I find if information is presented to them in writing and not just verballized, they may be able to identify what it is we are offering them. Confrimation of true understanding can occur when the student is given the opportunity to recognize their level of comprehension.

 

Tons of tools to choose from and a broader perspective helps to zero in on relevant information for our courses.

Maintaining a consistent outlook is important to ensure student understanding of the online environment. Creating modules which have familiarity with each other can make navigating less troublesom

 

It is not unknown that students are not fond of answering a discussion question and then respond on two other posts. How effective can this particular method be toward genuine learning and comprehension. Maybe alternative methods may be better suited to keep students engaged. Possibly posting a research assignment along with a debate of topics could be more engaging and valued by the student.

Motivation, I agree, is key to the intrests of student and instructor. The most effective courses in my educational career came from instructors who knew our names, check for understanding and creatively found ways for the class to effectively apply the material we were learning in a practical and immediate way. Their deliveries of their respective content made an enormous difference compared to other instructors ineffective approach to presenting the materials. I can only hope to pay my currents students forward with the passion and clarity that my instructors provided for me.

I feel that another effective way of starting a lecture is to review the previous days material, prior to lecturing on the new material(s). Often times, todays's students, can't remember what they had for breakfast, so a simple review/ refresher of the lecture previously covered, can help tie into the next lecture, or gain the students attention and focus for the next round of lecture materials.
