My take away from this section is the need to have strong teams, have good communication and ensure that no on department operate in a vacuum.

My take away is that every institution is required to implement a written plan to combat the unauthorized use and distribution of copyrighted material by users of the school’s computer networks.

That both the compliance audit and the institution's financial audit MUST be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education within six months of the end of the school's fiscal year.

My take away is that students enrolled in an academic program for 1 year or less must have an academic evaluation at the end of each payment period.

My take away from this section is the importance of separating the Admissions office and the Financial Aid office.

Oversight and accountability are to be taken seriously.  As such, we must be detailed and timely in all that we do.

I have gained an awareness of what will trigger a DOE review i.e., change of owner, high default rate, etc.

I learned that in order to be considered attending in a virtual setting, the student must participate in the class such as contributing in an online discussion or initiating contact with a teacher to ask a course-related question.

This was really helpful and a good reminder that we are in a customer service business.  This recommendation alone is helpful:

  • Never say to the student "I don't know" – far better to say "Let me check on this…" The fact that you do not know is of no help to the student and will not solve his or her problem.

Leaders create an atmosphere that drives organizational change.
