I am excited about the idea of a curriculum map for my advisory committee.

My program is strictly asynchronous online, and I know listening to recorded lectures can be terribly boring.  I'm going to investigate some quick little attention-grabbing quizzes to incorporate into the lectures to break them up some.  Sometimes I start a lecture with a few lines from a song that leads into the topic of the lecture. It's my version of the "First Five Minutes."

 

 

It is difficult for me to apply some of the concepts in this module since my classes are entirely online, so there is little one-on-one interaction with students unless they are willing to schedule time with me.  Most work full time jobs, have families, and may be doing classwork in the middle of the night.  However, I do go over the stackable certificates with them during advising sessions when planning their classes and also the differences between certificates and certifications.  I emphasize the importance of certifications to stand out as a paralegal, since it is entirely voluntary, and also the… >>>

The horizontal alignment vs. vertical alignment gave me some ideas about how to cover more ground in my introducgtory classes.  There is quite a bit of similar content in two courses.  I have been locked into this idea that I had to cover the same material in both, but I think this gave me "permission" to think more about how to lighten up in the overlapping material so we can explore the dissimilar content in more depth.
