About me

I'm a radio instructor and the Specs Howard School of Media arts. This following a career bouncing up and down the radio dial in Michigan. I've written copy, delivered news, and played some great tunes. Now, I get to teach other people how to get started!

Activity

We have recently begun doing more content through video conferencing, and that has hilighted the need to make sure that all materials and objectives are well-organized in LMS so that students have a familiar environment to work from while they are adapting to all the new ways we are showing them content.

In my current teaching environment, course evaluation comes at the end of the 16 week class. While this is logical, it sometimes means that student feedback is not useful, because it comes after the fact. I do appreciate the need for the evaluation process to occur in concert with other ways of measuring course/outcome effectiveness.

Over all, I'd say that I am much more a fan of synchronous teaching environment. I do appreciate that this is often harder to facilitate because of scheduling/etc, but the positives, assuming all students are somehow available, outweigh the negatives.

I appreciate the reminder that the technology employed should match both the needs of the instructor, in terms of matching their style, and also that the tools should fit what the student learninf outcome is. I never realized how many different teaching styles I used over the course of a normal class period!
