Activity

Project based and work based learning expereinces that allow students to engage with one another and with co-workers to complete tass and solve problems.

Self-reflection, punctuality, attendance, work ethic, etc are all good ideas.

Terms like citizenship, empathy, and self-advocacy are thrown around with abandon. They may mean different things to different people. In fact, the differences can be significant enough to cause conflict. When communicating about "soft skills" it is important to define these things with clarity.

Communicating the "why" involves developing and communicating a vision and rationale. Cear vision and rationale are important for driving any mission.

The NIOSH CHecklist Model is a helpful guide for incorporating a formal safety checksheet.

We take safety vry seriously. However, we do not formally schedule our walk thrus of the shops. We also do not have instructors check eachothers shops. These would be good staregies to incorporate.

It is important to remember that the instructor will have the greatest influence over safety in the shop environment. I must insure that instructors are consisting following our safety procedures at all times with their students.

Having a written safety plan that everyone has access to is a must. An accident will happen. Not if...but when. One of the rules we use at our school is that every shop student has to pass OSHA 10 before they can work in the shop or at the job site.

CTE can provide relevent experiences that enhance employablilty and technical skills. Two things that employers desperately want students to have.

I need to continue to improve how well I recognize behaviors that are in line with our preferred culture and find creative ways to identify and redirect behaviors that are not.
