Activity

I think it's when students are able to see the product of their efforts directly in the community.  For example, our construction class has built tiny libraries and mobile food pantries placed around the city and are working on a pole barn project with a component school district.

Involving more local nonprofits like the Chamber of Commerce and the workforce colition.  We have made great connections with the library bureau and been able to do service learning through projects for them.

Developing a public calendar, inviting new faces to the advisory board meetings, increased involvement of students.

Our student work based learning programs would benefit from more community engagement.  It would help to find an authentic audience for our PBLs.  In addition, there are a lot of jobs available in the community without applicants, creating the connection can help place more of our students in the workforce right when they leave us.

Knowing about the three different types of engagement will help me gather data when in classrooms so that I can effectively coach a teacher on their practices.  It's important to building a coaching relationship and build community so all understand that I am there to help rather than to judge.

I think the video that included the 4 steps to providing effective feedback was very helpful.  Having sentence starters to use will help me guide my conversations with teachers.
