Sharing my experience establishes my expertise. Having students share their experiences allows me to get to know the students and establish a baseline for student knowledge. 

A syllabus is an important document for students to know what to expect from the course.

Motivating students is necessary for student success. Adult students have hurdles to overcome each day as they invest in their education. Motivating students keeps them on track, and engaged and a feeling of accomplishment as they move through the course. 

Respect the fact that these are adult learners and understand what it takes for them to work, take care of families, and go to school. Make class engaging and the material relevant to give students a sense of pride in what they know and what they are learning. 

Hold students accountable for the lesson they have to learn by allowing them to ask questions that keep them engaged. 

See the classroom through the eyes of the students to create a setting that is supportive

I learned how important it is to be a model that students want to follow. It is equally important to love what you teach and allow students to see your passionate interest in your subject. Keep students engaged and interested as well.
