I COMPREHEND THE HOW, WHY & WHAT OF LEARNING AND HOW WE SHOULD STRIVE TO GIVE EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES TO ALL LEVELS OF ABILITY. WE MUST ENSURE THAT ACCOMMODATIONS ARE ALWAYS OF A SAFE MANNER AND POSE NO THREAT TO THOSE PRESENT. WHILE WE STRIVE TO ACCOMODATE THOSE WITH DISABIITIES, IT IS ALSO OUR RESPONSIBILITY NOT TO CREATE A BURDEN OR A HARDSHIP FOR OTHERS INVOLVED, AND WE SHOULD NEVER FORGET THAT WE FOLLOW POLICY - ADMINISTRATION SETS IT.

I WAS ENLIGHTENED TO THE MANY CLASSIFICATIONS OF STUDENTS AND THE VARIOUS THINGS THAT WE NEED TO DO DO TO KEEP THINGS POSITIVE AND NOT FALL INTO THE NEGATIVE. I SEE THE IMPORTANCE OF STRUCTURE AND CLARITY IN THE CLASSROOM. WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO LISTEN WHEN A STUDENT WANTS TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES AND NOT JUST BE DOMINANT IN EVERY CONVERSATION BECAUSE AT TIMES THAT COULD BE A PART OF THE PROBLEM, INSTEAD OF THE SOLUTION. WE NEED TO REMEMBER THAT EVERYDAY IS A NEW DAY FOR BOTH THE STUDENT, AS WELL AS, THE TEACHER.

I UNDERSTAND THAT A LEARNING DISABILITY DOES NOT MEAN A STUDENT CAN'T LEARN, IT ONLY MEANS THAT THEY  - AS WELL AS THE TEACHER, HAVE TO APPROACH THE PROCESS WITH A DIFFERENT LEVEL OF CREATIVITY THAT WILL ENABLE AND ENHANCE THE RETENTION AND ATTENTION SPAN OF SAID STUDENT, AND THAT THEY COULD BE DEFICIENT IN MORE THAN ONE AREA.

 

I LEARNED THAT DIABILITIES CAN BE INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL, AND VISIBLE OR NON-VISIBLE IN NATURE. ALL STUDENTS NEED TO BE SERVED IN A FASHION THAT WILL ENCOURAGE AND ALLOW THEM TO REACH A LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT AND SATISFACTION, WHILE LEARNING HOW TO COPE WITH THEIR LIMITATIONS.

I LEARNED THAT COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE STUDENT, TEACHER AND RESOURCE STAFF IS IMPEERATIVE IF WE ARE TO SERVE AND ACCOMODATE THE STUDENT IN THE BENEFICIAL MANNER THEY DESERVE - AND AS REQUIRED BY LAWS ENACTED OVER THE PAST 50 YEARS.

i LEARNED THE DIFFERENT CLASSIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VARIOUS DISABILITIES - PHYSICAL, MENTAL & EMOTIONAL, AND THE IMPORTANCE OF IDENTIFYING AND TREATING THEM CORRECTLY.

WE NEED TO BE SENSITIVE OF DIFFERNENCES WHETHER RELIGIOUS, RACIAL OR FROM FAMILY STRUCTURE IN NATURE, ALWAYS OBSERVING AND RESPECTING THEIR RIGHTS.

ASSESSMENT MATERIALS SHOULD MATCH PROFICIENCY LEVELS AND WE SHOULD UTILIZE TRANSLATION APPS AS NECESSARY.

 

WE SHOULD IDENTIFY A LEARNING STYLE THAT IS FLEXIBLE AND MATURE IN NATURE AND INSURES A SAFE AMBIENCE.

THE SETTING SHOULD BE WELCOMING AND HAVE A CONSISTENT FLOW SO STUDENTS DO NOT FEEL BOXED IN. THERE SHOULD BE AN OPTION OF VARIOUS ACTIVITIES TO FULFILL ALL NEEDS.
