Offering a variety of teaching methods will engage students in a postive manner. Recognizing the different learning styles allows for a more cohesive course experience. Teaching mini sessions that focus on 10-15 minute time periods help keep more folks engaged in the learning process.

Inroduce myself by writing my name, course name and number on board. Allow students the same courtesy, and allow them to also talk about their hobbies, or what they enjoy outside of school. Clearly outline the objectives and goals of the course. Offer my knowledge, and expertise on the subject being taught. At the end of each class make sure everyone has a clear understanding of objectives, goals, and allow the autonomy of the students to tell me what I can do different, or better to help make their experience more successful.

Making sure that the objectives of the course, along with the goals you expect the students to obtain throughout the course are clearly defined. Instructors need to show their students that they are prepared to teach the course by demonstrating a tidy, and well stocked and organized classroom/lab area. Engaging and participating during the teaching experience will show your students that you care about their education, and outcome of the course.

Instruction should reflect both your personality, and your knowledge for the subject. Organization, and presenting yourself as confident, aware, and enthusiastic about the teaching experience will help engage your students. Lastly, afford professional courtesy to your students by being consistent with time management, attendance issues, university policies, etc.
