A school must evaluate student academic progress at the end of each grading period, if they are a program over 200 clock hours. Each student should be in good academic standing, which includes having an overall grade point average of 2.0 out of 4.0 in order to graduate from the program.

Offering a program where formal education in the past was not common, such as the culinary field; submitting a request for variance for a potential instructor due to limited formal education opportunities could be warrented. This is common among potential candidates that worked in Europe over the past several decades.
