In my experience I have found that it is hard for people to hear criticism about themselves. This is why I believe that feedback is best given through a compliment sandwich. We first give information that a person would be more open to usually about their positive behaviors. Then give the bitter news of where performance can be improved, finishing it off with how this behavior will look in the future when corrected and the future benefits. Then give an appraisal of some of the positive things this person brings to the team. This is like the idea that I… >>>

The review of content never ends. It is imperative as new technologies and new information come to light in our respective fields we must continue to update our methods. online there is information available at the touch of a button. If we are not keeping our materials up to date we will not be a viable resource to our students. As we review we can take the feedback given from the students and improve our delivery. This in turn perpetuates a constant movement to improve your content delivery and the institution, students, and instructors alike benefit from this constant revision.

the need to interact in the online environment is innate and imperative. To be present for the students as they need you to be is a challenge, so your feedback has got to be concise and encouraging. When a professor or instructor has the ability to see an individual in person feelings and emotions can be seen they can be a bit more caviler in their communication due to the ability to express emotion and non verbal communication. But in an online enviornemnt a statement can be made and taken out of context and if the student feels as they… >>>

Without proper communication we can loose students in online environments because they do not feel as though their needs are being met. Some students feel that if an instructor does not respond to their discussions, in many cases that the instructor does not care about their learning. Being an interactive presence for the students in an online environment encourages more participation and a feeling that the students and the instructor are working towards the same goal. To increase the knowledge base of the student.

In my experience I have seen an LMS get implemented without any form of testing, this caused a huge customer service issue for the individuals taking the course and the instructors that had to lead this course as well. All systems need to be tested and continuously reviewed. Links do not always stay available if that are not archived accurately and in these reviews these issues can be rectified. It is better to take the time to test and update our material before it is implemented then after or you will spend more working time dealing with the problems that… >>>

The ability to apply empathy can make or break the rapport that we have with students. Where I have seen a challenge is the ability to empathize with the student without enabling them. It tends to be an interesting balance between doing what is right by the student and holding them accountable to the standards set for their progress. I would love to hear feedback from the group on how you balance this issue in your practice?

Getting adult learners involved in their learning is one of the fastest ways to get involvement in the material. Adult learners have usually found in their lives that when applying skills while working is the fastest way to learn and accomplish a task. So why work against this, they usually do not want to sit and memorize information. I have found that teaching these individuals the skills they will need in the field, and practicing these skills will also counteract the learning differences that tend to arise between young and adult learners. this in turn tends to engage the students… >>>

As an instructor we want all of our students to get the material and to be a success in this endeavor. The best way for an individual to be involved in their learning is to be motivation from within, but can intrinsic motivation be taught, or is it something instilled or innately within us. I believe both. This kind of motivation is within all of us but it needs to be encouraged and nurtured. We as instructors are in a unique position to turn this "on" in an individual or suppress it. I believe this is a great power and… >>>

In public speaking keeping note cards is imperative to have to keep on track and minimize tangents especially if you have a large amount of information on the subject. I have found that in teaching and presenting that the same is true. A prepared set of material to be covered in each days lecture helps an instructor to give the perception of being prepared and ready for the task at hand. Also a good outline of the information to be covered assures that material should not be missed as well. On the other hand A presentation can be ruined if… >>>

The best part I believe about the use of this medium is that we can take an explanation of something and record it then you can edit the lecture or explanation. This I believe brings some consistency to the course you can assure that it is being taught the same every time. The student can also review information as many times as necessary, in whichever format that suits them best if there are multiple resources to suit different learning styles.
