It can have a major impact on retention, preparing students for the reality of education and the time commitment involved can allow students to effectively plan for their studies. I work most often with graduate students and this becomes so critical to their success

Although we do need to prepare students to be self sufficient, this is typically part of the evalution that happens through their time in post secondary institutions as they grow and develop. I think it is our responsibilty as administrators and educators to baby step them there and provide whatever level of support we can to help them be successful.

Education has the power to be life changing and we need to do whatever it takes to help students embrace this opportunity.
