Everyday that I have a class it's a new experience. The sad part is in Adult Education, We have students that do work day or night and are exhausted when they come in. I have learned to keep them on their toes when I start to see a lull. I will give breaks when needed but I always give surprise labs when I feel like its time for a shake-up.

I state what I expect at beginning of each class that I teach. If they are late, so many points are taken off. If they miss a test , so many points are taken off and a different version is given as well.

Since our academy does not offer pre- pretest, we find it hard to know how much of an education they have until maybe mid course. However, we offer a pre-test on the material that they will be learning. It's not till later that we learn that some cannot comprehend just the readng or math to say. This makes teaching a little difficult. I do not rush through the material. My quote is "leave no one behind" but sometimes I have no choice when its 2 days later and they still have not gotten the material. I do an early evaluation and… >>>

I have to admit i think power points can be a little boring at times. I don't use it. I use the white board, handouts and student interaction.

So funny..Since I started taken students on field trips, they use they that word as a way of saying we need a brain break.. and it works..! Field trips for us are really big. It takes at least 3 hours to do one from start to finish. To see their eyes and hear their questions makes it even more exciting for me.

The very first day is a long one. Intentionally. I introduce myself completely. In other words, I reveal my years of exprience, why I love teaching and a litte on my family life. Just to let them know I am human. Then, I have them to introduce themselves and give a little background. This gives not only me but the other students a chance to know where everyone comes from and maybe see how they relate to being in front of others. Then when I have something more in common when I hear their stories then I expand on myself… >>>

So many times I have come across students, not only in my class but other classes, that they have so many issues. When you do have their respect they still want to lean on you for advice. You can give only so much help before recommending them to student services. They are adult learners but you do get those you have to be a "MOM" at times. I have learned that students tend to be harsh on themselves if they don't get an A. One course that I teach, I do tell them that the course is hard and getting… >>>

I have mentioned this before, I seperate each student regardless during all test. After 3 years of teaching and of course I was a student along time ago, I have seen ever attempt at both behaviors. At times, I feel like a mom watching and correcting each behavior. You do listen and try to either help or correct the situation. All behavior's do need to be dealt with care. Do bring in a Supervisor when confronting with a student.

Believe it or not, I had both at one time in my class. Together they bonded and tried to make it harder not only for me but the other students as well. I did the usual, verbal and written warnings, but that still did not help. After doing some "research" I learned that they had some major issues going on outside of class.I did everything in my power to help and make it clear how much I was not going to tolerate their actions. Needless to say, any interuptions and so forth I did have the support of the school.… >>>
