How vital first impressions are, as well as dealing with cohorts of students coming in where they all are on a specific comfort level with each other, and I am now seen as the "outsider."

A proper layout or syllabus for the class can help you and the students prepare for what is to come, as well as having a check list to keep you on track while teaching. 

Knowing the different ways to teach, and most importantly it is about learning, not teaching! (: Making sure everyone is learning and different environments requiring different teaching styles.
