Best to keep calm, understand the issues, and try to diffuse as much as possible....this leads to better dialogue in resolving the conflicts.

Leadership has many aspects to it....learning from each other, keeping a morale compass, being flexible when necessary, and striving to reach common goals whether the team is 1, 10, or 100.  

Leadership is everything.  It's understanding what motivates you staff and implementing the ideas that will keep that motivation.  It's maintaining your emotions when times are tough and letting your emotions go when times are good.  It's being consistent in your decision making, removing the crazy makers, and being there when you staff needs you.  It's creating a fun environment.  It's setting and maintaining standards.  It's choosing a good attitude each day you show up to work.  The person that can do these things well typically is an affective leader.

Students will respond when they feel we have their best interest in mind.  Ways to achieve this to provide the necessary tools needed to set them up for success.  Having employers on site providing presentations, job fairs, teaching and helping students through the job search maze, providing resumes assistance, interview skills, and showing them how to write a followup email will go a long ways to setting a student up for success and them allowing you to be a part of that success.

 

Defining the mission for Career Services is important.  It should be a collaborative effort from stakeholders to get buy in to what CS is working towards.  Once you've outlined where you want to go and who you want to be....start concentrating on building rapport with students, instructors, admissions, leadership, and of course our employer-partners to build a comprehensive team.  This team work will improve student involvement, job preparation, job search and utimately produce good outcomes.  It's these outcomes that can be used by the institution as a selling point when trying to find new perspective students.  And CS should maintain… >>>
