I learned that a motivating instructor demonstrates enthusiasm, empathy, and consistency. I plan to foster a positive atmosphere that encourages curiosity and student success.

I gained insight into how reflecting on my own teaching effectiveness and leveraging my strengths can create a more meaningful and impactful learning experience for students.

I have learned that student retention is strengthened by creating a supportive and engaging learning environment that meets diverse needs. I’ve discovered the importance of designing personal learning experiences and encouraging goal setting, which fosters motivation, achievement, and long-term success.

From learning about student characteristics, I gained a deeper understanding of the diverse qualities, backgrounds, and learning styles that make up a dynamic classroom environment. I learned how recognizing and addressing common sources of student fears and frustrations can create a more supportive and inclusive atmosphere.

A support board (in a digital format) is an interesting approach. Enhancing assimilation during the first week helps students build confidence and a sense of belonging, while acclimating late enrollees ensures that everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed.

Faculty in orientation play a key role in introducing academic standards, guiding students through expectations, and fostering a sense of responsibility from the very beginning.

Orientation should simulate future course work while building peer to peer connections in a fun but credible manner.

In learning about student expectations, students enroll in college for a variety of reasons, including personal growth and external situations causing a need for financial stability. Many students enter with high expectations for academic success, supportive instructors, and a vibrant campus life. They often think about how they fit in with their classmates comparing abilities, interests, and social connections which can influence their confidence and engagement. We notice that common fears include failing courses, managing time, and balancing responsibilities outside of school. Early interventions and a proactive approach can can identify students at-risk. Furthermore, hiring and training staff and faculty to connect and mentor students will assist with engagement.

Changing the paradigm of an event can lead to new feelings and effective behaviors.
