Hi everyone,

In this section, we learned about dealing with special student issues like student/student conflicts, life crises, prior commitments, and alienation. All of these things affect the student's level of engagement and can cause them to leave the program prematurely. Some of the tips the module suggested we use to deal with these situations include reminding students of the commitment through regular communication, assisting them with time management skills, pulling alienated learners in and setting them up with partners in class, and resolving/documenting conflicts quickly to ensure they don't escalate.

I plan to apply these techniques in my own… >>>

Hi everyone!

In this section, I learned about asynchronous and synchronous discussions in the online learning environment. Asynchronous discussions are generally the better option with larger groups as it gives the learner more time to evaluate and form all responses with increases the level of interaction on the discussion board. Synchronous discussions are good for smaller group sizes when administered over a short time period (30 minutes).

Another important thing we learned about was engaging certain types of learning styles like avoidant, competitive, and dependent. Each of these has its own challenges that accompany it so the steps to getting… >>>

Hi everyone!

In this section, we learned about strategies we can use to give learners the best e-learning environment that focuses on influencing, persuading, inspiring, and energizing them. Combined, these focuses, help give students the best learning experience possible which will keep them engaged and result in better outcomes overall. Of these strategies, the ones that stood out most to me included answering student questions as quickly and thoroughly as possible (this is something I try to do always so the students feel important) and actively participating in the discussion board. Although we are often only required to post one… >>>

Hi everyone!

In this section, the first topic I learned about was e-learning and its breakdown. The e-learning breakdown includes structural integrity, navigational simplicity, intellectual interaction, and active learner-centered learning. Essentially all of these focus on having a content structure that is user-friendly and outlines all required components early on. In addition to this, the content should be easy to access, navigate, and also be highly interactive to keep the learner engaged. Lastly, the education experience should still be focused on the learner and should include some type of direct access to the instructor through technical/educational support, messaging, or video… >>>
