Being a naturally quiet person and independent learner, I was happy to learn about different learner types, including those who are disruptive and methods of managing these students so they do not affect other learner types.
My biggest takeaway is that synchronous discussions are best 1:1.
I love the idea that having students post a short introductory biography of themselves is just as important as instructors doing this.
Preparation for the class is just as important as the class itself.
I found the 15 min increment in lecture piece as well as the fact that adult learners tend to retain pieces of information in 5-7 bits at a time interesting.
I love the idea of a pretest to help prepare students for what will be on the actual exam.
I love the idea of a checklist for each class session to help keep on track and ensure everything planned for is actually covered.
It was a good reminder that confidence can be interpreted as arrogance if presented the wrong way.
Addressing students by name in written communications goes a long way in making them feel heard.
I really like the idea of an introductory video, letting students see and hear me as a real person before the beginning of a course. I think this will help students feel comfortable coming to me with questions/concerns.
