The methods discussed in this lesson regarding retention of information is extremely vital to the learning process and the development of competent graduates. I have found student's will learn the material best when I present it in a format that appeals to their primary learning style, AND underscores the importance of the material in relation to what they plan to do following graduation. Once it becomes "important" to them, they usually get it !!! Reinforcement of the material, once it is learned, becomes their "key" to success.
This course opened my eyes to the idea that extrensic rewards like gift certificates, free meals,tokens, etc. for outstanding performance in a class may actually work against the student in the long run. I didn't think about what happens when the rewards go away, perhaps in some future class. I will concentrate more on the intrensic rewards from now on, combining them when the opportunity presents itself.

My undergraduate and graduate university work were in the traditional mode of four walls, a chalk (later grease) board, a lecturing professor,lots of note-taking, exams, and an occasional individual or class project. Most media decision-makers in management had the same experience. Things have changed over the years, and so has the way education is presented. Students today expect the technology they have grown up with to play a major role in their educational experience.
