I can always improve my skills and the the times have changed in the way we need to connect with our students. Everyone has to evolve.

People are not making decisions (or buying) in the same way as they used to. Technology has changed the rules. They can get info from other resources without us. We need to step up our game to know what our students needs are.

Collaborating is important to achieve the overall goals for your team or department and everyone has a shared responsibility. Focusing on a situation instead of the any one person is key to resolving any issues and creating a vision for yourself and team. Allowing everyone to contribute willingly empowers them to reach out further with new ideas.

Asking the person how they would like to communicate is always best. Not everyone should be lumped in to a specific catagory and clarifying is the best approach. Never "assume" just because of their age is what is best for them. However, understanding the most effective ways prior to asking them is helpful to initiate.

It is important to understand the value and perspective of all the generations. It is important to understand how they learn and how they respond. Learning news ways to effectively communicate with each can be challenging, but adapting to what works best for them is what is key.

This is certainly a challenging obstacle with voicemails not being set up or full, with screening apps used, etc. We have to become more creative with our messaging and use mulitple platforms to find out which work best for each contact. Texting seems to be a more effective way to get responses these days. I need to be schooled on effective short speak.

Isolating and overcoming objections is a skill that you must aquire by listening and being aware of the students needs. Being prepared and practice always helps you become more skilled. Create a "power hour" dedicated to reaching out to students daily.

The 10 commandments is a great place to start, but also staying on task while making your presentation unique can be tricky. Remembering your end goal is key and listening as opposed to talking is just as important, especially when building rapport.

Your attitude and tone make a lasting impression with your first connection, so make sure it's a good one! Being prepared to ask the right questions to make sure you are effective and efficient for both parties is the key to starting off on the right path.

For me, it is being aware of how fast I speak at times. I have a tendancy to speak fast when I get excited or enthusiastic about a subject. I have to remember to slow the pace to allow others to comprehend what I am saying.

To focus on what is being said verbally and nonverbally and to ask the right questions is critical. Creating a bond or trust is developed with sincere listening and feedback.
