I have learned the importance of understanding the goals of my students and the reasoning behind why they are continuing their education is important to the success of my students. Basic needs of my students also play an important part of their success. If their basic needs are not met, they may not complete the program. It is also important to listen to my students concerns, but to keep everything professional. We are there to be their instructors not their friends. 

It is important to keep students interested. You can do this by changing up teaching styles to meet individual learning needs. It is also important to practice demonstrations ahead of time, interact with the students during the demonstration and reflect at the end of class to see how the demonstration helped and how it could be improved. 

It is important for students to feel comfortable with each other as well as you as an instructor. A getting to know you activity helps with this. 

I've learned that it is important to set the mood for your classroom. Confidence breeds confidence. Prepare early and make sure there are adequate supplies for the class. Also, have a clear and concise syllabus to ensure that staff and students are on the same page and can be held accountable. 

I've learned that you need to be confident and knowledgeable about your subject matter, but be humble as there are people who may be smarter than you in your class. Learn from past experiences, what type of instructors have you had and how did they help or make things difficult for you? Never assume that each class will be the same, get to know your students and understand how they learn. Be a resource for students, not just their instructor.
