there are multiple appropriate ways students can use AI and ChatGPT in their studies as an aid to effective learning.

Instructors need to coach students appropriately so the students do not croos the line into academic dishonesty. As an instructor I am learning where the line is.

the section pointed out some uses of ChatGPT that I had not considered, I had thought of AI as a research tool to get started on a topic but I had not gone the next step in thinking about using ChatGPT to generate example reports. Seems obvious in hindsight, since I knew the tool could create whole stories, but I had the functions seperate in my mind.

Comment on Emil Beraun's post: whoa, simply and effectively stated

I typically encourage students to use google and wikipedia to start their research on a topic with the admonishment those two tools are not valid references in an academic paper.

Start with google, locate a wikipedia article to get a background o the topic and gain an understanding of the jargon related to the topic. Then back to google to research further areas suggested by the wikipedia article. The references at the end of the wikipedia article and the additional research prompted by the article often provide a solid basis for starting a paper.

The students can now add ChatGPT… >>>

I have been exposed to the different categories of AI starting in the '80s modeling expert systems and weapon systems. I was vaguely aware of OpenAI but had not followed the founders/contributors backgrounds.
