Activity

Concerning the quiet learner and luring him/her into the discussions is crutical. The suggestion to review the biographical sketch the learner has provided is so important as communication and common interests can begin to engage the quiet learner. I also think that positive feedback is important with this type of learner.

Making sure that your feedback is delivered in a positive manner is so important

This module was informative and an excellent review. Developing trusting relationships through an online leaning environment can be accomplished and is so rewarding.

This is a great review concerning being prepared as instructors to help our online students be successful.

"For students to be able to understand their own point of view, add to that knowledge base and come out “on the other side” with a hybrid of knowledge is true evidence of critical thinking".

I love this statement because when this happens with a student it is very rewarding. With todays technology and information being available at the touch of a finger, it is easy to "adopt" a point of view because someone else said, thought, or posted this point of view. Allowing a student to explain, question, open their minds to other points of view, question again. research,… >>>

As the module discussed, rubrics help with grading but I believe more importantly, rubrics provide the expectations for the assignment to the student. This is a great tool to promote positive interactive communication for further learning and understanding for the student.

Online students may sometimes have attitude problems with active learning as discussed in this module. I do think that critical thinking skills do contribute to these "problems" and that communication with the students can help them be successful with embracing the active learning model of education.

Thinking back on the days of passive listening during my education, I understand completely how active learning can transform a students educational experience. I plan to incorporate more group activities as Marc Presky noted that students born after 1994 are more likely to enjoy group activities.
