Activity

I learned a lot about formative and summative evaluations and when to implement those evaluations into the course to help make the revisions. Also, how important it is to maintain a course history.

 

That students need more feedback and support in an online course because there's no F2F and how important it is to be present in the online course. I will make sure that i connect with the students and be present.

 

How important managing time is and being well organized. Anticipating what the students might ask or need ahead of time will minimize my admin workload.

 

That workload management pertains to organizational skills and I need to be well organized and prepared to reduce my workload.

 

The importance of planning and goal setting and the difference between "dream career" and "reality career". Also, I learned the 7 principles of learning. 

 

It is important to ask the students about their technology skills and not just assume they have all the necessary skills that are required.

 

I learned what methods to use when students are not participating. I can use the passive method or a more aggressive method may be necessary. Also learned about community of practice(CoP)

 

I learned a lot about how to provide for students with special needs, such as, allowing them additional time on tests/assignments or providing the opportunity take an oral exam instead. I am going to look into reader software, i had never heard of this before.

I learned how important communication is to building a community in the online course and that it is important to not only communicate academically, but also on a personal level. Both communication and collaboration are important. I will make sure that my expectations of the communication portion is clearly stated at beginning of class and do what i can to ensure that i am engaging the students.

 

I learned that the different age groups will learn different ways. The Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, and Millenials will all learn differently and communicating with each group is different. I will pay close attention to my wording, tone, etc. when communicating with the students.
