Activity

I learned in this lesson to make clear policies in my classroom. This allows me to set expectations the first day so that students are not unsure of what is expected. I also learned to have formative and summative evaluations in my classroom. I also learned about grading and what should be expected and some tips on what shouldn't be done.

I learned to change activities if you start to notice that students are not engaged anymore. I also learned to always have a Plan B, if Plan A is not working as well. I learned that having feedback from students is a good way to improve your instruction. You may be able to pinpoint what is not working for students.

I learned that there is a 10/20/30 rule with powerpoints. I learned that you can still use older methods of instruction as well.

I have learned that being prepared and coming to class can really impact students. I also learned how to overcome my natural shyness at first. I also learned that it is important to be engaged with the learners and take some self reflection when teaching.

As a new instructor, this was very helpful in realizing what can be expected and some tips for new instructors. I agree that planning can help prevent issues in the classroom. It was good to learn that what-ifs are not likely to occur. I still plan on using lesson plans to help me feel more comfortable when instructing a class.

I learned to not get defensive with students. Listen to the students, then react. It is best to set clear expectations early so they know what to expect. I learned that silent students work best in small groups. I was a silent student and I wished I was put in smaller groups more to help with my insecurity of being wrong. I also learned it is best to have multiple exams rather than one big final to help with student's test anxiety.

I learned about how to deal with inattentive students. I learned that younger student usually struggle the most with paying attention. I learned you can observe your students as well to assess for better ways to engage the students. If they are struggling to pay attention, may have to change up the style of teaching.

I have learned that you can be an expert in delivery of information by your own professional experience and engaging students in the learning process. I learned that there is a lot of questions as to Why we learn something. Adult learners need to know why so they can address their reason behind learning certain subjects.  I learned there are 3 areas of learning as well, cognitive, social, and psychomotor. This was really helpful for me to learn as a new instructor
