Great course. I look forward to seeing where I can flip my classes.

I have picked up a few ideas as well. I try to have an interactive class since that is the way I learn best. I will have to put more thought into how to flip more of my class little at a time

Jeannie,

I have the same problem. I teach Pharmacology which I can't boil down each topic into a 15 minute or less lecture. I will have to do some serious thinking on how to implement some of these strategies into my classroom

I'm curious what is your resitance to flipping your classroom? I understand that you don't have to flip the entire curriculum.

I have read about this in the past and was anxious to implement it in my classes. The big problem I face is at our school there are NO RESOURCES for us to do the video taping of our lectures, no clickers. When a faculty tried to do an online quiz for her students she was told it couldn't be controlled so she shouldn't do it.

That is interesting. I think a skype id would be a great thing for students to use. Wonder why they don't?

That is really cool. I am still struggling working at a school that has limited resources to use with our students. That is why I am interested in using some online resources to supplement my teaching. I can't even film myself lecturing and have a place to post it so our students can review the lecture at home.

I totally agree with you. Getting students to do any work a head of time is hard. You might want to send out a tweet or post an online question asking them what would motivate them to do their work early. I stuggle when I take a course that won't let me turn things in early. I like to get it out of the way because I have a busy life.

Christine,

 I don't teach English but you might want to have the students work in a group and come up with 3 topics they would like to write about. You could then have each group share the topics with the class and then have the class vote on which ones to write a paper on. It might help you to see what students find interesting.

@sspence

I like this approach. Often I think students don't realize that others have gone through what they are trying to accomplish and know the difficulty they are facing.
