Multiple evaluations are needed from multiple sources apparently and this information, be it quantitative or qualitative, are key in closing the loop.

I still think rubrics tend to be subjective but feedback is essential. I struggle with teaching students to see the positive in feedback that it is to help them focus to areas they can improve instead of always looking at it as a criticism or associating it with pointing out what they did wrong. I try to refrain from too much praise because it can give students the impression that they are so awesome there is no area for them to improve which gives them this false perceptionof grandiose.

The concept of scaffolding is important because students need ot builld upon prior knowledge and skills and they take their cues of task from the instructor therefore, it is important to have clear expectations.

I have always keep digital folders for each course I teach so I don't have to re-create the wheel year-after year. I understand the importance of keeping all my info in one easy to reach spot so I am learning how to create and use these templates in a complete online platform.

Reply to Tonya Tracy's post: I didn't either but I will definetly be looking into that now!

Communication is key. Providing counseling and feedback. Instructors must know how to address undesirable behavior. Personality traits that you see in the classroom, you will see online.

Asynchronous is good for foreign students that are less likely to contribute in a class, group, or face-to-face setting while synchronous is best left to one-on-one conversations.

Reply to Esther Eke-Huber's post: I agree. It makes me feel more at ease when I find people around me who share similar experiences and I would imagine that could be the case for online learners, knowing their are others in the same situation.

Get to know your students and allow them to know you. Post a photo or text telling your students about your credentials and expertise. As a first assignment, have students post a video about themselves and encourage them to view one another's as well. It is possible to still hold students accountable for their learning by using scheduled reminders.

Reply to Cristiane Timoteo's post: I agree Cristiane. I work much harder instructing online than I did in the actual classroom.
