Activity

The first days of class are important. This is the time to interest your students and grab their attention. Make class expectations clear, make the content clear and fun as well. Express to them the importance of a supportive classroom environment and encourage them to move forward by making the class fun and interactive. Some students will come to orientation and even the first day of classes but sometimes won't return after that, so make the time that you have with them count. They might come back at a later date when they're ready.

One of my favorite parts in  this section was the mention of having teachers talk about things outside of class. This helps the students relate more and help them understand that teachers are human as well and have issues/goals/dreams just like they do. I like this because I feel as though sometimes students forget that teachers are just like them and they can too achieve their goals/dreams.

In this section I learned the importance of having an interesting, effective and supportive orientation. Students are nervous on the first day of classes so by having a fun and interactive as well as having readily resources available, allows the students some ease prior to going into their first classes.

I learned that it is important to a make sure the campus supports all the needs of the students. Having a schedule that fits around the students classes/home life is important and builds credibility.

I learned that there are two types of motivators, intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic is long lasting and more effective as extrinsic is a bridge to help the person move toward being intrinsic.

Security was something that stuck out to me. The student has to believe in their abilities in the classroom in order to help them thrive. I think this is important for us all some point in time in our lives.

Enagaging students is important in helping them understand and grasp the content. Create clear content that relates to life, that has meaning and is well planned.

Another importany nugget: Reinforce students in a way that motivates each individual learner, supports their learning and maintains class control.

It's important to build a good rapport with your students. If they trust you they will be willing to open up to you and engage more in the classroom. Learning their names, being supportive and treating them with respect plays an big part in building a rapport.

In this section what stood out most to me is the importance of self-confidence. It's important for the student to have self confidence in order to help them succeed. As a instructor, being supportive, encouraging and prepared helps the student feel more confident and ready to succeed. Also greeting the students, learning their names and having a postive attitude sets a great learning environment and helps build their condifence in the class.

I learned the importance of supporting your students in a way that will promote confidence and a wholesome learning environment. Its important to understand each student and their individual needs. There are students coming into the classroom with all different diversities and backgrounds. Its important to acknowledge those differences in a supporitve non bias way; while providing differentiated lesson and supportive materials and resources. Being a active and good listener is also a important assest to have.
