The course material provided superb assistance for me in understanding more about the class dynamics. It appeared that whenever I completed a module, I was able to apply the acquired knowledge immediately in the class setting. I approached my work with greater confidence, because of my renewed teaching skills.

Dee, be my guest. Thank you. I have learned alot from the various commentary. So feel free to do so. David, thank you, also for the remark. Your replies do serve as excellent motivational support. Teaching is not so straightforward. We have to serve as each other's cheerleader. Best regards.

Each day I write in the top right hand corner of the board the word "Professional" and immediately below it I post the definition: 1. Knowledgeable 2. Ethics/morals.

Reason:

When there is a behavior pattern that is not consistent with the expected norm, I refer the student to the top right hand corner, by saying "that is not professional". Equally, if the behavior is worth applauding, for example, courtesy extended in any form to a class mate, I would say "that is being professional". Hopefully, the students will ponder first, whether their words or actions reflect the professionalism being trained towards.

An example lies in teaching addition and subtraction of fractions. This can be very frustrating, especially when the students do not know their multiplication tables. They seem to depend on your teaching skills in the class room only, and not to make personal efforts at home (i.e. after giving them home work). Some may say "this is why you are the instructor and I am here for you to teach me". I teach Pharmacy Tech. and math is essential. I am trying to find a way to motivate students who are not mathematically inclined. I welcome suggestions.
