I haven't had a problem before with students cheating on tests. Usually I build a connection with the students and motivate them to want to do well in class. They usually end up not wanting to disappoint me. I also walk around the classroom to let them know that I genuinely care about their futures. I believe I am successful with that. However, cheating via plaigerism is another thing. One of the assignments in my class is a research paper. Students must paraphrase or use quotes from their resource materials. I recently had a student in one of my classes who was so uninterested and seemingly disinterested in the course. I was shocked! I did not blame her I blamed myself. So, I tried different activities, put the class in small groups, and even managed to incorporate some relevant jokes. I strived to get the attention of this ONE student (as well as the others) but it was very difficult. I purposely reconfigured things in class, but to no avail did it excite or intice her. Assessments are difficult for me sometimes. I try to find many different ways to address the different types of learners in my classes. I use different methods to assess their learning, not just a multiple choice quiz at the end of the quarter, however, I'm not sure if my multiple choice assessment assess what they are suppose to. Any suggestions?
