About me

I am a retired K-12 educator from Gulfport.  I have 18 years of classroom experience, and 10 years of Educational Leadership experience.  I was a building principal for 7 years and had the opportunity to serve as Federal Programs Director/Community Relations Director before retiring in 2011.  I have enjoyed being Home for the 3 years, but I got anxious and decided I wanted to continue to work in a field that I can give back, but on a different platform.

So, I am excited to have the opportunity to join the Miller-Motte family.

Activity

Most of the schools have the sme requriements.  Their format may be a little different, but they all require the same documentation because of federal requriements.

I have found that it is always better to focus on the positive when talking to students. If you are positive and find good things to say, they will open up and give you information that you won't have to ask for. As a matter of fact, the will give you information, you don't want to know about.....

How long have universal designs been used in schools. It is very interesting to me. I never considered certain universal designs accommodations, but when you think about it, they really are.
Technology has provided so many new ways for students with and without disabilities to learn. The world is constantly changing and becoming easier for all to be successful.
Students with disabilities can succeed. If given the help they need, some or more successful than those without disabilities. They have the passion to trive because they are succeeding inspite of the odds they face. Embracing them is the best thing to do, the results can be very rewarding.

An institution must be very careful when compensating employees. This can get very sticky when trying to reward employees. You must have a clear, concise format that is transparent to everyone.

When advertising for the institution, we must make sure that we use every aspect of the new aged methods. Although the internet is popular, one cannot assume that every home has access to a computer or even a smart phone. Old and new must come together to achieve one common goal.
Recruiting staff and students must be consistent and transparent. In order to receive the best students for the program and the most qualified staff for the program, the institution MUST make sure they are consistent with the process.

The Federal Guidelines change from year to year because of the inconsistences of various institutions, schools and colleges. Because funds are misappropriated and misused, the guidelines change to make sure everyone has the same opportunity as others to receive a appropriate education. We must band together to make sure we stay in compliance, follow all the rules and regulations to continue to raise the bar.
