I deal with this topic on occasion. Students want to know how much money they are going to make when they become"Chef of the World"! I like to assign students a project where they are required to research different career paths within culinary arts. Job requirements, qualifications, and salary, are all topics to be researched.
The use of interactive games and assigning projects where the student in supervised, can be useful in the teaching of good Saftey & Sanitation habits.
Chef instructors must be able to incorporate some core GE concepts to their class. Writting menus, reports, and banquet prospectous all require good grammer and punctuation skills.

Some of generalizations regarding generation X I do not agree with. Yes, some students due need constant reminding that they are doing well. While the majority of students from this generation I have found to be very independent and sophisticated.

There are 3 different types of questioning techniques. They are: Closed, open, and procedural. The closed question draws from your personal memory, open questions require more than simple recall, and procedural questions ask you to follow a certain set of steps. Open questions should be the crust of your questioning, engaging the student and forcing them to participate in the lecture.
The interaction between the instructor and the adult student learner is very important to the students success. Being that the adult learner, is generally, older and has life experience's to reference. The younger learner, who does not have these experience's, may be more challenging to reach.
The way we carry ourselves has a definate impact on the student. I pride myself with leaving any personal matters at home, and enagaing the the student the most positive body language and mamerism's.
The fast paced world that we live in has truly influcened education. Having a accelerated learning system in place, enables us to get students trained into the work for expiditiously.

I have used music in my class's for years. Having music playing while the students are entering energizes them. Music is common for all cultures and I use it to bring students together.
Being that our program is just 30 weeks in duration, and considered an accelerated program, it is critical that the student attend all scheduled classes.
